The Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 sets out a number of principles concerning the protection of personal information. Kinections is committed to protecting your privacy, and Kinections is committed to collecting only information that is considered to be necessary for providing a quality service to you as our valued client. Details held by Kinections include:
Kinections may hold your details in one or more categories within our administration system, e.g. case notes, case file, or on a data base. Kinections collects this information directly from you through forms and documents, when you engage with staff members or volunteers either face to face or by telephone. This information is confidential unless Kinections is required by duty of care to inform another person or agency about any issue of safety, harm or abuse that may involve another person or other persons. Kinections does not pass your personal details on to third parties unless required to by legislation, e.g. by subpoena, court order, or search warrant, or unless by routine correspondence such as a letter of referral. In the event of any request for information concerning you that is not required by legislation or other statutory means, Kinections will obtain your approval and signature on a "Release of Information" form before releasing any information to another party. Your details that are recorded on forms or documents are stored in locked filing cabinets. Staff have limited access on a "need to know" basis. Your details that are recorded electronically are stored in computer files that are accessible only to staff on a "need to know" basis, and this information is protected either by password or by restricted networking of computer files. Kinections is required by funding guidelines to record some of your details on to a national data base for statistical and funding purposes that is controlled by the Commonwealth Government. In the event that information about you is recorded on the data base, any details that may identify you are scrambled by the computer so that any person viewing the data is not able to identify you. You have the right to access any information concerning yourself that Kinections may hold. If you wish to do so, please ask the worker who deals with you, or if you prefer phone 3435 4333 and ask the Administration Officer to assist you.
