The Kinections group is a family and relationships counselling service providing individual and group counselling and educational services to Queensland families and agencies. Kinections currently has branches in Woolloongabba, Logan, Ipswich and North Brisbane.
The purpose of our service:
- strengthen existing family structures (including cultural specifics) by providing skills for greater resilience in an ever-changing society through counselling and education
- empower individuals and families to engage in positive and proactive communication through counselling, education; and referral opportunities to wider community activities
- reduce the need for, and/or length of, engagement with the Family Law Court system through counselling and education
- provide a child focused and child centered parenting approach for parents, especially for those who are separated/divorced
- reduce the risk of youth homelessness arising from issues of familial conflict through counselling and education
- prevention and reduction of crime through behavioural programs and counselling targeting domestic violence, abuse, bullying, etc
- reduce the need for, and/or length of, engagement with the state mental health system through counselling and education
- reduce the need for, and/or length of, engagement with the Department of Child Safety through counselling and education
- empower families to gain greater access to community and government services through information, referral and community education.
What Kinections Does
Kinections provides a diverse range of counselling and training services to all Queenslanders living in the Southeast.
Family Relationship Services Program (FRSP)
Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, our FRSP provides Queenslanders with the opportunity to explore and discuss relationship and family issues in a safe and supportive environment.
The aim of the program is to provide early intervention through counselling and education to assist relationships and families with:
- communication
- problem-solving
- conflict resolution
- parenting
- blended families
- same sex couples
- teen issues
- divorce and separation
- goal-setting
- retirement planning
- pre-marriage/relationship preparation
- and marriage/relationship enrichment.
Domestic and Family Violence Program
Funded by the Queensland Department of Communities, the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, and Spiritus, our Family Violence Program works with men, women and children who are or have been in violent relationships.
Through group work, counselling and education, those who have experienced family violence are supported to regain control of their lives and establish goals for a safer future, while those who have used abuse or violence are supported to recognise their behaviour, establish patterns for change and work towards meaningful and safe relationships in the future.
