What is CAMS

The Multicultural Community Worker Program, also known as CAMS Network (Coordinated Advocacy in the Multicultural Sector) is an initiative of the Queensland Government funded by Multicultural Affairs Queensland in partnership with sixteen community organisations across Queensland. Currently we are 20 workers employed by the participating agencies, four of which are working with three ethno specific communities (Australian South Sea Islanders (Mackay), African and Pacific Islander communities (Brisbane & Logan). Also included are peak bodies and State wide agencies: Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, Queensland Council of Social Services, Youth Affairs Network of Queensland and Multicultural Development Association.  The Program assists community organisations to fulfil their community development roles with culturally and linguistically diverse groups, their advocacy and referral roles to government and non government services providers, and their role in the promotion of multiculturalism across the whole community.

Aims

The aims of the Program are to increase access, participation and cohesion in Queensland’s culturally diverse society. The Program is intended to build positive and constructive relations between government and non government service providers and people form culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and to enhance capacity across the community to address multicultural issues in a spirit of cooperation and respect.

In particular the Program aims to work with culturally and linguistically diverse groups to achieve:
